On 17th February 2009, a select group of distillery managers and sensory experts met at Blair Athol Distillery. Their expertise had been brought together to evaluate hand selected casks from 27 distilleries and to agree amongest themselves whish casks stood out as being extraordinary. The single cask malts were first tasted blind, in small groups, and then reevaluated by the others. There was inevitably much debate, passionate discussion and even the odd argument, as each expression was nosed and tasted. But finally a consensus was reached and each of the distilleries had a respective winner. The chosen casks, representing unique expressions and extraordinary characteristics from each distillery, were carefully bottled at their natuaral cask strenght, ensuring the flavours and aromas that stood them apart on that special day were captured.
